AI Portfolio Tracker: What Works for European Investors
ChatGPT can now read US brokerage accounts, but not your Degiro. What an AI portfolio tracker does well, where it fails, and a setup that works in Europe.
An AI portfolio tracker is a portfolio tracker with a language model on top. The tracker calculates your positions, returns and dividends, and the AI answers questions about them in plain language. The AI part is now easy to get. The hard part, for European investors, is still the data underneath it.
In May 2026, OpenAI launched personal finance tools in ChatGPT. Pro users in the US can link accounts at more than 12,000 institutions, Schwab, Fidelity and Robinhood among them, and ask about portfolio performance in a chat. It launched as a US preview, and no European launch has been announced. If you invest through Degiro, there is nothing for it to link to anyway. Degiro has no public API.
So for a Degiro investor, an AI portfolio tracker in 2026 still starts with a CSV file. This guide covers what the AI layer does well, where it gets your numbers wrong, how to judge the AI tracker apps, and a setup that works today.
What an AI portfolio tracker actually is
Every AI portfolio tool has two layers. The data layer turns your trades into holdings, values them at current prices, converts them to your currency and adds dividends. The language layer reads the result and talks to you about it.
The two layers can come from one app or from two. That gives you four setups to choose from:
| Setup | Example | How it gets your data | Available to Degiro investors |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chatbot with linked accounts | ChatGPT Finances | Read-only link through Plaid | No (US preview only) |
| Tracker with built-in AI | getquin and similar apps | Bank sync or uploaded broker files | Yes, AI features mostly paid |
| Chatbot with an uploaded file | ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini | You upload or paste your export | Yes |
| Tracker plus a chatbot of your choice | Zune.Money plus any chatbot | Degiro CSV import, then a summary you paste | Yes |
Most marketing for "AI investing apps" is about the language layer: the chat window, the suggested questions, the friendly tone. Judge the data layer first. A chatbot that reads a wrong return reports it fluently and confidently.
Why ChatGPT Finances does not reach your Degiro account
ChatGPT Finances works because US brokers expose account data through aggregators like Plaid. Europe has no equivalent for investment accounts. The PSD2 open-banking rules give apps access to payment accounts, such as your current account, but not to securities accounts. A broker can still open its data by choice, and Degiro has not.
That leaves European trackers with three ways to get your holdings:
- A file you export yourself. Degiro's transaction export is a CSV that you download and upload. Nothing connects to your account.
- A broker connection. This works only where the broker offers one, which is more common with German and neo-brokers than with Degiro.
- Your broker login. Some apps ask for your username and password and fetch the data for you. For a broker without an API, this is an unofficial connection, and you hand a third party the keys to an account that can trade.
The first route is slower by about two minutes a month. It is also the only one where no app ever holds your Degiro credentials.
What AI is good at in portfolio analysis
Use a language model for questions where the answer is a sentence:
- Explaining what you own. "What does this ETF hold, and how is it different from the other one?" Models are good at this, and it is the question most beginners never ask.
- Spotting concentration. Give it a list of weights and it will notice that three of your positions are the same bet on US tech.
- Stress-testing a plan. "I want €800 a month in dividends by 2035. What assumptions does that need?" A good model lists the yield, growth and contribution numbers your plan depends on.
- Translating jargon. Accumulating vs distributing, TER, withholding tax, ex-dividend date.
This is why the habit is spreading fast. In eToro's August 2025 survey of 11,000 retail investors, 19% said they used AI tools to pick or adjust investments, up from 13% a year earlier.
Where AI portfolio analysis gets the numbers wrong
Ask a model a question where the answer is a number about your own money, and the errors start. The model does not see prices, exchange rates or dividend payments unless your data contains them, and it fills every gap with a plausible guess. We tested the failure points in detail in our guide on how to analyze your portfolio with ChatGPT safely. Four of them matter most for European investors:
| Question | What the AI often does | Correct source |
|---|---|---|
| What is my position worth? | Uses a price from its training data or a stale quote | Tracker with current prices |
| How much did I make on US stocks? | Ignores the euro-dollar rate and the conversion fee | Tracker in your base currency |
| What is my dividend income? | Adds gross dividends, before withholding tax | Tracker with net dividends |
| What is my yearly return? | Picks a return method without telling you | Tracker, with the method stated |
The dividend row is the easiest to miss. Suppose your US holdings pay €600 a year in gross dividends. With a W-8BEN form on file, 15% is withheld at source, so €510 reaches your account. An AI that adds the gross figures overstates your US dividend income by almost 18%, before your own country taxes anything. Our guide to dividend withholding tax in Europe lists the rates by country.
The yearly-return row causes the most confusion. A simple total gain, a time-weighted return and a money-weighted return can all be correct and still differ by several points for the same portfolio. Our guide to measuring portfolio performance explains which one answers which question.
The data layer matters more than the chat window
Here is the part that most "best AI portfolio tracker" lists skip. An AI tracker inherits every error in its own numbers. If the app counts a stock split as a sale, or values a Euronext ETF in dollars, the chat window explains the wrong figure in perfect sentences. You have no easy way to notice, because the conversation sounds right.
That changes how you judge these apps. Before you try the chat, open the plain numbers screen and check three positions by hand against your Degiro account: quantity, value in euros and dividends received this year. If those match, the AI has something solid to talk about. If they do not, no model can fix it.
It also changes what you pay for. The language layer is getting cheaper every quarter, and the free plans of the large chatbots already read a pasted table well. The data layer is the part that takes real work: parsing broker exports, matching ISINs to tickers, handling corporate actions, converting currencies on the right dates. That work is what a tracker is for.
How to choose an AI portfolio tracker: 6 checks
- How does it get your data? Prefer a file you export or an official broker connection. Be careful with any app that asks for your broker password.
- Can it act on your account? Read-only access is the minimum. No app needs to place trades to answer questions.
- Where is your data stored, and is it used for training? Look for EU hosting and a clear statement on model training. Your holdings show your net worth, which is sensitive data.
- Can you see the numbers the AI reads? A good app shows the underlying table, not only the chat answer.
- Does it handle a European portfolio? Base currency in euros, net dividends after withholding tax, and Euronext and Xetra listings.
- Is the AI tier worth its price to you? If you ask a question once a month, a free chatbot and a pasted summary cost nothing.
ESMA, the EU markets regulator, gives similar advice in its warning on the use of AI for investing: use AI tools as one source of information among several, and be careful about what personal data you give them.
A setup that works for Degiro investors today
You do not need to wait for ChatGPT Finances to reach Europe. This takes about ten minutes the first time:
- Export your transactions from Degiro. Open the Inbox, then Transactions, set the date range to your full history and export the CSV. It takes about 30 seconds.
- Import the file into a tracker. A Degiro portfolio tracker rebuilds your positions, values them in euros and adds your dividends.
- Check three positions by hand. Quantity, euro value and dividends this year, against Degiro.
- Copy a summary, not the raw file. Holding name, ISIN, weight, euro value, sector and country. Leave out account numbers and anything that identifies you.
- Ask reasoning questions. "Where is this portfolio concentrated?" "What would a 20% fall in US tech do to it?" "Which of these ETFs overlap?"
- Take every number back to the tracker. If the AI quotes a figure about your money, check it against the source before you act on it.
Step 5 is where AI earns its place. Overlap is a good first question this year, because a world ETF, an S&P 500 ETF and a few single tech stocks hold more of the same seven companies than most investors think. We worked through the arithmetic in ETF overlap: how much Mag 7 is in your portfolio.
Where Zune.Money fits
Zune.Money is the data layer in that setup. It reads your Degiro CSV, shows every holding with its weight and euro value, adds your dividends, and breaks your allocation down by sector and country. It never asks for your Degiro login, and your data is hosted in the EU.
It has no chatbot built in. That is deliberate. The large chatbots improve every few months, and you can use whichever one you already trust. Our job is the part they cannot do well: correct numbers from a Degiro export.
If you want to compare it with other tools first, our roundup of the portfolio trackers Reddit recommends covers the main options for European investors. A free account holds up to 10 holdings with no card and no time limit. Import your Degiro CSV, check the numbers, then give your favourite AI something correct to work with.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an AI that can connect directly to my Degiro account?
Not through an official route. Degiro does not offer a public API for third-party apps, so any tool that asks for your Degiro username and password uses an unofficial connection. The safe way to give an AI your Degiro data is the transaction export you download yourself, read by a tracker that never sees your login.
Is it safe to let an AI app read my brokerage account?
Read-only access is the minimum. Before you connect, check three things: that the app cannot place orders or move money, where your data is stored, and whether your conversations are used to train models. In ChatGPT you can turn model training off in the data controls settings.
Can an AI portfolio tracker give me investment advice?
In the EU, a personal recommendation to buy or sell a specific investment is regulated advice under MiFID II. Most AI tracker apps describe their answers as information, not advice, and the responsibility for the decision stays with you. Treat the AI as a second opinion that explains and questions, not as an adviser.
Do I have to pay for an AI portfolio tracker?
No. A free tracker that calculates your positions, plus the free plan of any chatbot, covers most of what paid AI features do. Paid AI tiers save the copy-and-paste step and keep the conversation next to your data. Whether that is worth a yearly fee depends on how often you ask questions.
